Investigation Underway In Gas Explosion In Kansas City Missouri

Reports say that at least twelve people have been injured in an explosion that occurred in Kansas City, Missouri yesterday evening. The explosion took place at JJ’s restaurant, a popular restaurant at the upscale Country Club Plaza. As of now, it does not appear that anyone was killed in the explosion which took place at 6 p.m., but the police were using cadaver dogs to search through the debris of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is completely destroyed and gas could be smelled for hours after the blast occurred. Missouri Gas Energy had the gas to the area turned off by 8 p.m.

The University of Kansas Hospital, where six of the victims were treated, said that only one was in critical condition and two were in serious condition. As to what caused the blast, Missouri Gas Energy has stated that they believe one of the gas pipelines had suffered from some kind of damage and that it was not due to an issue with infrastructure. The public service commission chairman is currently investigating the accident and has stated that it appears to have started because a pipeline was hit during construction.
